Protected Area “El Espino – Los Pericos Forest”

El Espino – Los Pericos Forest, also known as Bicentennial Park, is the first protected area located in metropolitan San Salvador, specifically in the Valle de las Hamacas, in the volcanic chain of the Pacific slope of north Central America.

The Park is located in the living area sub-tropical moist forest. Before being named a protected natural area, its soil was used for growing coffee under shade (Holdridge 1975).

Its elevation is between 800 and 900 meters above sea level, which leads The Nature Conservancy (2008) to locate it in the lower areas of the eco-regions of the Humid Forests of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas.

Open hours from Monday to Sunday:

Bicentennial Park Hours: 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Bikeway and pedestrian pathway (Linear Park): 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
